MINEDUC Hosts Dialogue on the Future of Higher Education in Rwanda
The Ministry of Education has launched a two-day high-level workshop aimed at shaping the future of higher education in Rwanda. The dialogue brings together key stakeholders, including leaders from public and private higher learning institutions, representatives from the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, the Ministry of Youth and Arts, the Private Sector Federation (PSF), and the National Commission of Science and Technology.
In his opening address, Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, emphasized the critical role of higher education in Rwanda’s long-term development aspirations. He called on participants to engage in open and forward-thinking discussions that address challenges while leveraging opportunities within the sector.
“As we gather here today, we are all conscious of Rwanda’s vision for the future. Vision 2050 outlines our commitment to becoming a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation, research, and a highly skilled workforce. In this vision, higher education plays a central role in equipping our youth with the skills needed to propel the nation forward. Achieving this ambition requires strategic thinking and collaborative action from all stakeholders,” Minister Nsengimana stated.
The Minister underscored the workshop’s significance, highlighting that it is not merely a reflection on past achievements but a platform for co-creating practical solutions to enhance the quality, accessibility, and relevance of higher education in Rwanda.
“Your contributions will be pivotal in shaping policies and strategies that drive real impact,” he added.
Over the next two days, participants will engage in discussions aimed at producing actionable recommendations to ensure that Rwanda’s higher education system remains aligned with the country’s ambitious socio-economic development goals.
