MINEDUC receives Zimbabwe educational personnel

Kigali, 20th October 2022:  The Minister of State in Charge of ICT and TVET Hon  Claudette Irere  opened a three-day orientation workshop for 154 recruited Zimbabwean educational personnel who arrived in Kigali  the day before  in a delegation led by Hon. Lovemore Matuke, Deputy Minister of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare  of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Her Excellency Prof. Charity Manyeruke, Ambassador of Zimbabwe in Rwanda.. 

Present at the event were also the Permanent Secretary of Rwanda  Ministry of Education Mr. Charles Karakye, the Director General of Rwanda Education Board  Dr. Nelson Mbarushimana and other Ministry's staff at the central level and Affiliated Agencies .  . 

In her opening remarks at the orientation workshop, Minister of State / ICT & TVET Hon. Claudette Irere welcomed the Zimbabwean recruited education personnel and appreciated the partnership between Rwanda and Zimbabwe as this recruitment proves a long-lasting cooperation between the two nations..

She also pledged support from the Rwandan community and the Government during all their stay in Rwanda .

The 154  Zimbabwean educational personnels – of whom 96 are males and 58 are females  are in Rwanda  following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 23rd December 2021 between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda (MINEDUC) and the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare of the Republic of Zimbabwe with the aim of exchanging educational personnel and expertise upon request of any of the Parties..

Their recruitment was made in collaboration with MIFOTRA, MINEDUC jointly with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare of the Republic of Zimbabwe whereby written and oral examinations were done by the  Zimbabwean candidates  through  e-recruitment system, They were given offer to work in Rwanda after after successfully meeting all the requirements. Their. contracts allow them to work for two years renewable upon satisfactory performance, and they will be deployed in various institutions as follows:

  • 135 in 16 Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)
  • 6 trainers in 3 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools with rare skills requirements
  • 11 trainers in 3 Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centres (IPRC)
  • 3 university lecturers will teach in the University of Rwanda - College of Medicine and Health Sciences (UR-CMHS)

While closing the first day of the orientation workshop , the Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education  Hon. Gaspard Twagirayezu thanked  Zimbabwean Educational Personnel for their commitment  to join Rwandan Teaching working Force;. He also wished them the  best and successful journey in Rwanda .

Before they depart for their respective workplaces on  22 October 2022, all the Zimbabwean delegation  also  visited Kigali Genocide Memorial and Campaign against Genocide Museum in Kigali City to have an insight of the Rwandan history..
