Minister Nsengimana Welcomes Education First Delegation as MINEDUC Expands Teachers’ English Proficiency Training

The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, today welcomed a high-level delegation from Education First (EF), a global leader in language education. This collaboration is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance teachers’ English proficiency, strengthening the country’s education system and improving learning outcomes.

Through the Rwanda Education Board (REB), Education First will provide tailored English language training to 38,000 in-service teachers, with a possibility to expand the program to all educators in need. The initiative is designed to equip teachers with essential language skills, enabling them to deliver effective instruction, foster student success, and enhance Rwanda’s integration into the global knowledge economy.

Since adopting English as the official medium of instruction in 2008, the government has prioritized capacity-building programs for teachers and public servants. The partnership with Education First reinforces this commitment by offering tailored, high-quality language training that supports professional growth and elevates classroom performance.

With a presence in over 120 countries, Education First brings decades of expertise in language training, academic programs, and cultural exchange. Their global experience and innovative teaching methodologies make them a valuable partner in Rwanda’s mission to strengthen teacher capacity and drive nationwide educational transformation.

This initiative aligns with Rwanda’s broader vision of enhancing education quality, empowering teachers, and equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive and globalized world.
