Some Schools in Gisagara District were advised on Strategies to fight against Pupils Absenteeism and School Drop out. In the on-going countrywide Quality Education Awareness Campaign, which is focusing on Quality of Teaching and Learning, one of the issues that are being noticed as obstacles to quality Education Delivery is Pupils Absenteeism and school dropout. On this Wednesday 30th January 2019 among the visited schools in Gisagara District, approximatively 10% of pupils that are supposed to be in the classroom are absent. And 1% were reported as dropout cases of 2018. The Team that is visiting Gisagara schools in the mentioned campaign advised Head Teachers to do a closest follow up of student who are absent; knowing the reason behind their absence, engaging their parents and working together with the local authorities to stop this absenteeism as most of the times Dropout start by absenteeism. Teachers were also reminded their responsibility of recording on a daily basis the attendance of students and work with the authorities to take measures of were pupil absenteeism is often. Some of the reported key reasons of absenteeism of pupils in Gisagara District are; parents’ mindset who do not understand the importance of Education, some kids are involved in small business, manpower, agriculture activities and the daily responsibilities of their families. The school visited in Gisagara visited so far are Karama Primary School, Nyaruhengeri Primary School, Kansi Primary School, GS Cyumba, GS Gisagara A, GS Cyamukuza and GS Nyagahuru. 34 schools will be visited in this district under this two weeks campaign.
