Cabinet endorsed Rwanda hosting the 18th Edition of the FEASSSA2018, from 10th to 20th August 2018, in Musanze.


Kigali, July 14,2018: The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr.Isaac Munyakazi informed the Cabinet Meeting that from 10th to 20th August 2018 Rwanda will host the 18th Edition of the Federation of East African Secondary School Sports (FEASSSA) Championship for the third time. This championship will be held at Musanze District, Northern Province. The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) alongside the Federation of Rwanda School Sports (FRSS) and FEASSSA Secretariat are the lead institutions in the preparations. The FEASSSA games aim to nurture the “East African Spirit” by enabling secondary school students to visit different geographical sites in East Africa while also learning and interacting with different cultures during the competition. FEASSSA competitions games normally attracts over 4000 athletes including officials from the six East African Community Member States, namely; Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda. For the first time in history of FEASSSA Competition games, we will also have competitions among primary schools starting with Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda in Football, Volley Ball and Net Ball Disciplines. For secondary schools, the sport disciplines are: Volley Ball, Football, Rugby, Handball, Basketball, Netball, athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis and Hockey. Rwanda hosting FEASSSA 2018 Championship, presents a great opportunity to promote the country’s tourism and cultural diversity to East Africans, particularly the Youth in schools.  Hosting FEASSSA rotates in the EAC member states on an annual basis. Currently, at National level, selection of the teams that will represent Rwanda has been done. Rwandan Athletes will camp for thorough training and preparations in Musanze from July 30th to 9th August 2018 ahead of the start of FEASSSA2018 Competitions. END.
