COMMUNIQUE: LIST OF SCHOOLS SUSPENDED FOR ONE WEEK OF THIRD TERM TO START ON 27/08/2018

The Ministry of Education with its affiliated institutions, Workforce Development Authority, Rwanda Education Board na Rwanda Polytechnic, in collaboration with the inspection team in the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC) carried out a joint school inspection for selected schools in all Districts. The objective of the school inspection was to assess the school readiness to receive students in third trimester. The activity started on Monday 13th August and ended on Wednesday 15th August, 2018.

 The main purpose of this inspection was to access the readiness of schools in preparation for the beginning of third term of the school year 2018, and to examine issues which can possibly be addressed while students are back to school and those which can not be fixed and would require additional time for schools to avoid any risks to students that would be caused by inadequate preparations.

The schools that are suspended for one week to start the 3rd term have the following issues:

1.       Schools which do not have enough food in stores;

2.       Schools with very poor hygiene, especially where there are bedbugs in domitories, poor hygiene in kitchen, toilets as well as in the school compound;

3.       Schools which have access to electricity with insufficient lights and substandard electrial installations in classrooms,  libraries, dormitories and other parts of the school compound.

4.       In the context of promoting ICT in education, the Ministry of Education requests schools which still keep laptops in stores to place and install them in the appropriate room with reference to the smart classrooms standards, before the start of 3rd term.

The Ministry of Education hereby requests District Authorities to follow-up and take administrative measures  against heads of schools that have been identified as not ready to start the 3rd term, as povided by the law.

Parents/guardians whose children are from the suspended schools are hereby assured that students will be compensated with the lost time, and this will not affect their teaching and learning pocess.

The Ministry of Education takes this opportunity to inform the general public that, in case of any query related to education matters, call the Ministry’s toll free number: 2028.
