Minister MUTIMURA calls upon Head Teachers of TVET schools to closely follow up on students, support them to acquire practical skills
KIGALI , July 15, 2019: The Minister of Education Dr Eugene MUTIMURA calls up Head Teachers of TVET schools in general to closely follow up on students and support them to acquire practical skills. The Minister made the call during his field visit to Western and Southern Provinces, where he visited Rubengera TVET School in Karongi district and Shangi TVET School in Nyamasheke district.
While visiting the schools, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene MUTIMURA toured different workshops and emphasized the role of teachers in enhancing quality education among students. He requested staff & leadership of the TVET schools to improve on management of workshop’s equipment and urged all stakeholders involved to utilize them effectively.
At Rubengera TVET School, the Minister of Education was accompanied by the Mayor of Karongi district Mr. Ndayisaba Francois, and they toured the school infrastructure to witness their conditions which some of them were poorly maintained. The Mayor of Karongi district promised that the district will support Rubengera TVET school to rehabilitate some affected materials in the workshops. Rubengera TVET school to date, has 80 students in three trades: Welding, Culinary Art and Masonry.
In Nyamasheke district, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene MUTIMURA was received by the Mayor of Nyamasheke district Mr. KAMALI Fabien Aime where he visited Shangi TVET School. The Minister appreciated the state of infrastructures but asked the headteacher of the school to follow up closely on what takes place in a class. Shangi TVET school has four trades and these are Culinary Art, Welding, Domestic Electrification and Automobile Mechanics.
In Southern Province, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura together with the Minister of Defense Major General Murasira Albert, visited Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC Huye) on Friday July 12, 2019. The Ministers held a meeting with the heads of the college and visited IPRC Huye premises to witness the status of the buildings, workshops and innovation projects.
The Ministers appreciated available equipment in the workshops and notices that a lot needs to be done on buildings that are very old and in a bad state.
