Minister Nsengimana Highlights the Role of AI in Shaping the Future of Education at FEWA AI Summit 2025
Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana joined education leaders, innovators, and policymakers at the Future of Education and Work in Africa (FEWA) AI Summit, held alongside MWC Kigali 2025.
In his address, Minister Nsengimana highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in strengthening education systems across Africa. He noted that AI can empower teachers to teach better, enable students to learn faster, and help governments make smarter investments in education.
“AI is not a threat to Africa’s workforce, but rather a catalyst for learning, innovation, and inclusion,”
he emphasized, underscoring the importance of harnessing technology to advance equitable and quality education.
Guided by Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation, Minister Nsengimana outlined Rwanda’s strategy to build an AI-ready education ecosystem anchored on three key pillars:
_Readiness: Empowering teachers through AI literacy and digital tools.
_Relevance: Aligning education with future skills and innovation.
_Reach: Ensuring inclusive and connected schools for all learners.
He further called on development partners and stakeholders to collaborate in scaling successful innovations across the education sector.
“We must turn pilots into policies and innovation into impact,” the Minister said, reaffirming Rwanda’s commitment to building an equitable, ethical, and future-ready education system for the AI era.
The FEWA AI Summit, organized in partnership with GSMA and hosted alongside MWC Kigali 2025, provides a platform for African leaders, educators, and innovators to discuss how technology can shape the future of learning and work across the continent.
