Minister of Education meets Eastern Province Governor, visits schools in Bugesera District
The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, met with the Governor of the Eastern Province, Pudence Rubingisa, to review the status of the education sector in the province and agree on priorities to strengthen access, quality, and learning outcomes.
While commending the province for steady progress in education governance, the Minister and the Governor highlighted the importance of ensuring that teaching and training respond to the specific socio-economic realities of each district. Using the development of the upcoming Bugesera International Airport as an example, both leaders emphasized that schools, particularly Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions should anticipate local labour-market needs and equip learners with relevant, job-ready skills. The meeting concluded with agreement on concrete measures to accelerate education improvements across the province.
Following the meeting, the Minister, accompanied by the Eastern Province Governor and the Mayor of Bugesera District, conducted field visits to Groupe Scolaire Kamabuye and TTC Nyamata.

At Groupe Scolaire Kamabuye, the Minister observed Primary 1, 2, and 3 learners using AI-powered, tablet-based learning tools to support early literacy and numeracy. The initiative reflects Rwanda’s commitment to integrating digital solutions into classrooms to enhance learner engagement and strengthen foundational skills.
At TTC Nyamata, the Minister highlighted the central role of Teacher Training Colleges in preparing competent educators and shaping responsible citizens.
“Teacher Training Colleges do not only prepare future teachers; they shape the next generation of Rwandans,” he noted.
The visits underscored the Government’s continued focus on modernising education through digital innovation and strong teacher development programmes. Minister Nsengimana reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with provincial leaders, schools, and communities to ensure equitable access to quality education for all learners.
As Rwanda advances its education transformation agenda, initiatives in the Eastern Province reflect the broader national objective of building a skilled, knowledgeable, and innovative population to support sustainable development.
