Minister of State Dr.Isaac Munyakazi calls upon parents to send students to school on due dates

KIGALI 14th January 2019: The Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac Munyakazi visited 8 primary and secondary schools in Nyarugenge district, in Kigali City to assess the school attendance on the beginning of the first term 2019.

At some schools, the Minister of State noticed a non-satisfactory attendance of students and teachers and took the occasion to advise the schools leaders on their role to ensure that the first day of the term is not wasted. “Headteachers and Diector of Studies should intervene so that teachers and students report on the first day and that courses begin immediately” he said.

Dr. Munyakazi called upon parents to be collaborative in the exercise of respecting the school calendar. He said that the Ministry releases the school calendar in advance to facilitate preparations for all involved parties. “When we realise that some students are absent on the first day, this means that parents did not pay attention on planned dates and we call upon them to be more conscious in future.”

Other dignitaries involved in this school tour included the Mayor of Nyarugenge district Mrs Kayisime Nzaramba and the Director General of Rwanda Education Board Dr. NDAYAMBAJE Irénée and Benjamin KAGERUKA Head of Education Quality Assurance Department in the Ministry.

Schools visited are: Gs. Sainte Famille, GS APACOPE, GS Muhima, GS Kimisagara, ESSI Nyamirambo , GS Saint Andre, GS Intwari and Lycée de Kigali.
