Minister of State launches 2024/2025 national practical exams for TVET students
The Minister of State Claudette Irere, today launched the 2024/2025 national practical examinations for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students at ESSA Nyarugunga in Kicukiro District.
A total of 66,958 candidates from across the country are participating in the practical exams, which will run from May 19 to June 6, 2025. These hands-on assessments are a core part of Rwanda’s competency-based TVET curriculum, aimed at evaluating students’ technical proficiency and readiness for the labor market in various trades and professional disciplines.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for Education highlighted the importance of equipping young people with practical skills that meet labor market demands. She noted that such skills enhance employability while fueling innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
“Practical skills are not just tools for employment—they are the foundation for innovation, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship. That is why the Government of Rwanda remains firmly committed to strengthening TVET as a strategic pillar for national development and economic transformation.” —Claudette Irere, Minister of State for Education.
In total, 471,010 candidates are expected to sit for national exams this academic year, including:
220,822 candidates for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE),
