Minister of State Launches RP Skills Challenge 2025
On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Minister of State for Education, Claudette Irere, officially launched the RP Skills Challenge 2025, an initiative that celebrates technical excellence and innovation within Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) colleges. The event was held in collaboration with key partners from government, industry, and development organizations.
In her remarks, the Minister of State highlighted the importance of technical and vocational education in advancing Rwanda’s development agenda and achieving Vision 2050.
“You represent the spirit of innovation that drives our nation forward. As we work toward the goals of Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation, your skills and ideas are not just relevant—they are essential to shaping our socio-economic landscape. This challenge provides a vital platform to showcase your ingenuity, technical capacity, and readiness to lead industrial transformation,” she said.
The 2025 competition features 27 top-performing students from RP colleges competing in six skill areas: High Precision Metal Joining, Decorative Construction, Industrial Electrical Installations, Fashion Design, Industrial Automation, and Smart Manufacturing CAD. These students were selected through a rigorous internal process and will be evaluated by a panel of 21 expert trainers.
The competition is organised in alignment with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 and NST2, reinforcing RP’s commitment to producing skilled and competitive graduates to drive the country’s socio economic transformation. The event also serves as a platform for collaboration among education institutions, private sector actors, and development partners—all working together to inspire and equip the next generation of technical professionals.
