Ministry of Education marks the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year

The Ministry of Education officially opened the 2025/2026 academic year across Rwanda, with national and district-level ceremonies bringing together learners, teachers, parents, and education leaders.

The national ceremony waspresided over by the Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, at GS Kicukiro in Kigali City. In his address, the Minister called on learners to remain focused, work hard, and learn their teachers. He also reminded parents of their vital role in partnering with schools to ensure accountability, while instilling in children not only knowledge but also values.

Simultaneously, at GS Mayange A in Bugesera District, the Minister of State, Claudette Irere, officiated the opening of the school year. She urged learners to study with commitment, listen to their parents and teachers, and balance academics with sports and recreation. She emphasized discipline, values, and resilience:

“Study with commitment and you will succeed. Be exemplary in behavior, respect your parents and teachers. Play, do sports, and do them at the right time. Dream big, because your dreams are also ours. For those who did not perform well last year, this is your chance to work harder and excel.”

Across the country, officials from the Ministry of Education, affiliated institutions, and local government also joined schools to mark this important occasion.

As Rwanda opens a new chapter in education, the Ministry extends its best wishes to all learners for a successful, disciplined, and fruitful school year ahead.
