RP Skills Challenge 2025 highlights Government’s commitment to expanding TVET enrolment
As part of efforts to promote practical skills and expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country, the Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to increasing TVET enrolment to at least 60% of the student population during the ongoing RP Skills Challenge 2025.
Speaking at the challenge venue, the Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, praised the initiative, describing it as a valuable platform that not only enhances students’ hands-on experience but also showcases the relevance and quality of training provided at Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) and other technical institutions.
“As a government, we are committed to increasing enrolment in TVET to at least 60% of the student population. Initiatives like the RP Skills Challenge are highly commendable, as they allow students to put theory into practice while also demonstrating to the public the value of training offered at RP and other technical institutions. Our graduates are job-ready and equipped to meet market demands. I was pleased to witness the energy, creativity, talent, and innovation demonstrated by all competitors,” said the Minister.
The RP Skills Challenge 2025 brings together top-performing students from RP colleges to compete in a series of technical disciplines, including industrial automation, fashion design, metal joining, and smart manufacturing. The challenge not only tests their proficiency but also fosters a spirit of innovation and excellence aligned with Rwanda’s Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1).
This year’s edition has attracted significant public and stakeholder interest, with participants selected through rigorous internal competitions at college level and assessed by expert trainers and industry professionals.
Through platforms like the RP Skills Challenge, the Government of Rwanda continues to promote the role of TVET in addressing skills gaps, enhancing employability, and driving the country’s socio-economic transformation.
