Rwanda is set to host 2018 FEASSSA championship - Dr. Munyakazi


The Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac Munyakazi confirmed Rwanda’s readiness to successfully host the upcoming 17th Edition of the Federation of East African Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) slated to start on August 10-20 in Musanze district, Northern Province. Speaking to the press during a press conference held on Thursday August 2, 2018 in Musanze district, the Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi noted that necessary preparations were done and Rwanda is well set to host the FEASSSA 2018. ‘‘All hosting venues are in place and in good shape, everyone involved in the games is set ahead of the commencement of the FEASSSA Games. We also believe that Rwanda as host country has done everything possible to ensure that her teams stage fruitful performances”said Dr. Munyakazi The upcoming FEASSSA Games 2018, will attract about 3000 (boys and girls) players from primary and secondary school teams drawn from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Rwanda. The multi-disciplinary games include football, volleyball, basketball, handball and netball. Other sports disciplines set to offer competition in swimming, badminton, tennis, table tennis, rugby, hockey and athletics. Venues earmarked to host the games include: GS Busogo II (Volleyball and Netball), College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Rwanda Police Academy will host football matches, Mutobo field will host Rugby while Tennis will be staged at Ibirunga Tennis Club.
Muhabura Integrated Polytechnic College will host volleyball, handball and netball matches, Ste Vincent Muhoza will host to play basketball and Netball competitions while Stade Ubworoherane will host football and athletics events as well as opening and closing ceremonies. Classic Lodge will host swimming, badminton and table tennis events, IPRC Musanze will also play host to football and men’s basketball events, Nyakinama will also host football in the boys’ category while Nyakarambi will play host to hockey events.
Participating teams will be residing at Ecole Secondaire St Vincent will host girls in the secondary school category while Ecole de Science Musanze will host boys in the second school category respectively. E.S.T.B-Ecole Secondaire Technique Busogo will host all girls and boys from the primary school level.
Rwanda playing host for the 2018 FEASSSA Games presents a great opportunity to promote the country’s tourism and cultural diversity to East Africans, particularly the Youth in schools. The annual Federation of East African Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games comes to Rwanda barely three years after the country hosted the 2015 edition in Huye district. For the first time, in history FEASSSA Competition games, we will also have competitions among primary schools starting with Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda in Football, Volley Ball and Net Balls Disciplines. The goal of FEASSSA games is to nurture the “East African Spirit of One People One Destiny’’ by enabling secondary school students to visit different geographical sites in East Africa while also learning and interacting with different cultures during the sports competitions.
