Rwanda Launches 2024/2025 Primary Leaving Examinations, Celebrating 220,840 Candidates.
Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, at GS Filipo Simaldone in Nyarugenge District, while Minister of State Claudette Irere led a parallel event at Sainte Ignace in Gasabo District.
This year, 220,840 candidates—120,621 girls and 100,219 boys—are sitting the exams in 1,147 examination centers across the country, underscoring Rwanda’s continued progress toward equitable access to education.
Running from June 30 to July 3, 2025, the PLE covers six subjects: Mathematics, Ikinyarwanda, English, Social and Religious Studies, Science, and Elementary Technology. The exams are a key assessment of learners’ competencies and readiness to transition to secondary school.
Beyond measuring academic achievement, the PLE reflects Rwanda’s commitment to inclusive and quality education. The Ministry has put in place special accommodations for learners with disabilities, including braille and large print materials, audio recorders, and exam scribes.
This launch also signals the beginning of a broader national examination period. Secondary School Examinations (O’Level and A’Level) will follow from July 9 to 18, covering general, professional, and technical education tracks.
As the exams commence, the Ministry of Education extends its best wishes to all candidates and commends the dedication of teachers, parents, and community leaders who have supported learners throughout the school year.
