2398 students graduate at Rwanda Polytechnic



On October 25,2019,  at Kigali Arena, Rwanda Polytechnic ( RP)  held its third graduation whereby  2398  students -  606 females and 1792 males -  who completed their studies in 8  Integrated Polytechnic Regional Colleges were awarded diplomas and advanced diplomas.

 The graduation ceremony coincided with awarding certificates to 1784 trainers who underwent the training on Competency –Based Training and Assessment (CBT/CBA), in Rwanda TVET Trainer Institute (RTTI) since 2018.

 All these 2398 graduates came from these programs :

- Civil Engineering,

- Irrigation and Water Engineering,

 - Agriculture Engineering,

- Hospitality Management,

 - Electrical and Electronics Engineering,

- Wildlife Management,

- Wildlife Tourism,

- Forest Resources Management,

- Mechanical Engineering ,

- Mining Engineering.

- Information and Communication Technology ,

 A total number of 8 Integrated Polytechnic Regional Colleges (IPRCs) form the Rwanda Polytechnic  as follows :

- IPRC Gishari,

- IPRC Huye ,

- IPRC Karongi,

- IPRC Kigali,

- IPRC Kitabi ,

-  IPRC Musanze,

 - IPRC Ngoma and IPRC Tumba.

 In his remarks The Vice Chancellor of RP Dr. James Gashumba acknowledged the efforts that the Government put in TVET for transforming Rwandan youth into competitive and skilled workforce for both regional and global labor market.

 Dr, Gashumba went on to express gratitude to different partners who always  cooperate with RP in advancing TVET.

  “In a very special way I wish to recognize and thank all our development partners who are contributing  a lot to the achievement of RP  mission and the companies which have responsed positively to our calling for sponsoring the event and awarding corporate prizes to the best performing students in different fields and programs,” He said

 The Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura who was the guest of honor said that the government of Rwanda is very committed to supporting TVET as major area and there were many vibrant opportunities to support innovations that will help TVET sector to grow.

 Addressing the graduating students, he said: ‘’ Your graduation is not only a crowning stage of a very long & hard journey of study & training ,but also a start of new challenges of what you can do with the package of competencies you acquired throughout  your stay at Rwanda Polytechnic”

 Among these graduates, best performer students were awarded for their outstanding projects, whereby each got Five hundred thousand Rwandan Francs.

 Awards came in 3 different categories as follows:

 The first category was made of 8 graduates from 8 IPRCs who scored the highest marks in their respective colleges.

The second was made of two females graduates, who performed very well in programs related to STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The third  category of award was for an innovation project by 3 brilliant graduates.

 The representative of the graduating students Olivier Iradukunda who completed his studies at IPRC Kigali requested more cooperation between RP and private sector for easy access to internership to improve professionalism and competitiveness.

 He went on to say “ Graduates from IPRCs are capable of being job creators but they need more support through incubation centers that can cater for different training areas offered by Rwanda Polytechnic”.

 During the two previous graduations RP graduated 2 cohorts of students , respectively 1882 on 28th June 2018 and 2088 on 21st March 2019.
