Television learning programs started to be broadcast to help students learn from homes during COVID-19 lockdown

On 15 April 2020, the Television learning programs started to be broadcast to help students learn from homes during COVID-19 lockdown.

This comes following the learning programs which started on 4 April 2020 on different radio stations.

Students as well as pupils are encouraged to listen to different radio stations and watch Televisions both National and private TVs, so that they can get altogether lessons and assignments. Course teachers introduce lessons and later give home assignments. Parents and guardians’ role is paramount because they are the ones to help students and pupils listen and watch the lessons and do the given assignments.

All these initiatives follow the decision of the Governement of Rwanda to temporarily close all schools on 15 March 2020,  as a strategy to prevent the spreading of  Covid-19.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and Innovations and telecommunication companies, put together a list of educational websites that can be made freely accessible to support students and pupils use eLearning. These include the following:

1. For nursery, primary and secondary schools; an online platform elearning.reb.rw has been set up and all courses as per national curriculum are uploaded. There are also questions that can be used in the assessment. Reach out to Rwanda Education Board on [email protected]

2. The website elearning.rp.ac.rw contains courses for vocational learners at all levels (TVET and IPRCs). Reach out to Rwanda Polytechnic more information on telephone: 0784771228

3. The website elearning.ur.ac.rw contains courses for UR students in all faculties. Students from private universities are encouraged to use them as well. Reach out to @Uni_Rwanda for more info.

The E-learning program for pre- primary, primary and secondary schools includes numerous types of teaching materials such as delivery of lessons and assessments in form of text, audio, images, animation, and streaming video.
