On this Wednesday February 13, 2019, The Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac Munyakazi officiated and participated in the JICA Open Day, an event where different Education stakeholders from different corners of the country came together to G.S. Kabuye Catholique in Gasabo District to observe lessons that have been developed through Lesson Study, exchange opinions and ideas and discuss how to introduce the Lesson Study model into all Rwandan schools.

During this Open Day, the State Minister Dr Isaac Munyakazi observed “Lesson Study” which is an activity to demonstrate/observe a live lesson, to study/explore the best learning / teaching approaches for each lesson. The State Minister recognized the role of JICA for supporting Rwandan education specifically the technical advices to improve quality of classroom through the lesson study.  He reminded the participants that everyone must think about his/her role to support teachers to improve the quality of Education as it is a concern for everyone to have 100% attention to Education “we cannot talk about Competency based training without competent teachers" He said.

The Ministry of Education , through Rwanda Education Board (REB) introduced Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in 2015 to align with national aspirations and to ensure that knowledge, skills, attitudes and values acquired by Rwandans in schools meet the challenges of the 21st century. Teachers need some level of competences in implementing the Competence Based Curriculum so that the country could have competent learners who are; Creative, innovative with critical and deep thinking.
