University of Rwanda Holds 11th Graduation Ceremony Celebrating 9,526 Graduates
Today, the University of Rwanda (UR) held its 11th Graduation Ceremony at the Huye Campus Stadium, celebrating the remarkable achievements of 9,526 students across its seven colleges. The ceremony brought together graduates, government officials, local leaders, parents, and distinguished guests to honor the dedication and hard work of the Class of 2025.
Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva joined the celebrations and addressed the graduates, emphasizing the significance of this milestone:
“Your degree is not the destination, it’s the beginning. The road ahead may challenge you, but it’s also full of opportunities. Be bold, dream big, and carry the values that define us as Rwandans: unity, hard work, and patriotism. Go make things happen, the future is yours to shape.”
The ceremony also recognized top-performing students from all seven colleges, across bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs, with scholarships, paid internships, and special awards for their excellence and impact.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda, Muganga Kayihura urged graduates to continuously update their knowledge to stay relevant in a rapidly changing world, particularly in emerging technologies such as AI:
“We celebrate you joining an elite community of scholars in a world transformed by technological innovation and the dynamic nature of work.”
The University’s Chancellor, Patricia L. Campbell, formally conferred doctoral degrees on 35 distinguished PhD recipients, highlighting their perseverance and resilience:
“You have reached this day through determination, resilience, and hard work. Your mentors and the University administration are proud of you.”
This year’s graduating class comprises 4,204 female and 5,322 male students, distributed across the University’s colleges as follows:
College of Education: 2,554
College of Science & Technology: 1,688
College of Arts & Social Sciences: 1,006
College of Business & Economics: 2,005
College of Medicine & Health Sciences: 1,136
College of Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences: 981
The event marked a proud moment for families, communities, and the nation as graduates prepared to step boldly into the next chapter of their lives, equipped with knowledge, skills, and values that define Rwanda’s future.
